Accomplishments
Member Connections
- Our Member Connections Committee will host more than 80 events in 2009.
- MPACT hosted Tennessee’s only Creative Conversation, a program of American in Arts, held in partnership with Memphis College of Arts, and attended by more than 200 people.
- Launched the MPACT Outlet event series, a unique general membership event combining live music, art, festivities, and spotlights of area non-profits.
- Launched our Uniquely Memphis campaign, designed to spotlight all the people, places, and events that make Memphis a great place to live.
- MPACT Memphis’ 2008 Party of the Year was attended by over 400 young professionals and raised nearly $15,000
- MPACT secured funding to hold a welcome reception for the new Teach for America Corp members.
- MPACT Memphis help host the NBA Draft Lottery Party for the Memphis Grizzlies which was shown on national television (ESPN). Over 400 people were in attendance for the party
- MPACT held an After Hours event at the Orpheum Theatre that was attended by over 125 people
- MPACT Memphis partnered with Grizzlies Charitable Foundation for a Uniquely Memphis After Hours event with Eliot Perry as guest speaker. 90 participants were in attendance.
Leadership Development
- MPACT Memphis/Volunteer Memphis Nonprofit Expo showcased more than 100 area non-profits and was attended by more than 2000 people.
- Participated in a teleconference hosted by Emerge Lakeland, a FL young professional organization – reaffirming that MPACT is the national leader for young professional organizations.
- More than 300 MPACT members have participated in leadership programs such as Memphis FastTrack Program, Leadership Academy fellows Program, and GenTN over the last 24 months.
Civic Engagement
- Hosted Memphis’ largest non-partisan Presidential Debate Watch Party, attended by more than 300 people.
- Held issue forms on Education, Crime, and Media connecting citizens to leaders such as Shelby County Mayor A.C. Wharton, Police Director Larry Godwin, local elected officials, educators, and other Memphis notables.
- Hosted an URBANEXUS event with Next American City Magazine (a national publication) on The New Face of Civic Engagement in Memphis, which was attended by more than 150 people.
- Held a members-only reception featuring Mayor Willie Herenton and Sen. Lamar Alexander.
- MPACT Memphis partnered with WREG News Channel 3 and The Commercial Appeal to host the2008 Congressional Debate and the 2007 Memphis Mayoral Debates (both televised).
- OP/ED Piece was run in local newspaper appealing to local leaders to mentor and support young professionals and creatives as they become the city’s next generation of leaders.
- Op-Ed piece was run in The Commercial Appeal asking Memphis to make a New Year’s Resolution to stop sneering Memphis and to be proud of the city we reside in
- Sponsored “A Concert to End Slavery” in conjunction with the Visible Film Festival that was attended by over 300 people
- MPACT Memphis continues to be a strageic partner with the MemphisED Plan, having met or exceeded all of our organizational benchmarks, which directly translates to more young professionals choosing to remain in Memphis.
